L’ambliopia è una condizione in cui la funzione visiva di un occhio è ridotta o assente senza che ci siano stati dei danni oculari organici. Si tratta di una patologia che si sviluppa in età pediatrica e coinvolge circa il 4% della popolazione infantile. Consiste in un deficit dell’apparato visivo: il cervello, non riuscendo ad interpretare correttamente le informazioni che gli arrivano, “disattiva” i segnali che provengono da un occhio ecco da cosa deriva la denominazione di “occhio pigro” con cui è forse maggiormente nota la malattia.



Il modo migliore per affrontare l’ambliopia è prevenirla, cioè eliminare tutte le cause che possono causarla e tutti i fattori che possono peggiorare la situazione come l’uso improprio di TV o PC visti in maniera troppo ravvicinata o l’uso di lenti anche di occhiali da sole giocattolo non certificate.

Dall’altra, la riduzione dell’inibizione intracorticale si accompagna all’aumento levels of a neurotrophin, BDNF, which promotes directly the structural changes and functional properties of cortical circuits needed for vision. "
