The decontamination of a partisan book, checked and signed by Giovanni Granucci
ALSO A lateen WITH I one thousand OF GARIBALDI
There was a lateen between 1089 Garibaldi who actively participated in the expedition of the Thousand .
His name was Giovanni Granucci (son of Paul) and was part of that small group of Pisani (compared to 4, and with him the Joseph Chicca, Funaioli; Marabotti Angelo, Wheeler, Thomas Romans, tailor) who left on May 5, 1860 from Quartu with Garibaldi for the great expedition that brought about the union of Italy.
Who was Giovanni Granucci?
From the Journal of the Thousand, Drawn from the Official Journal of 12 Nov. 1878 - No. 226 and reproduced in the work: "I Mille from Genoa to Capua" by G. Bondi (and BURizzoli) is listed at No. 526 Granucci John Paul was calcium ( Pisa).
From the baptismal register of the Parish of kicks the year 1838, we took the baptismal certificate, marked in the margins "Castelmaggiore" - JOHN Granucci, Valentino, Paul Caesar, the late Peter and Mary Valentino Vanni LC LSC (legitimate spouses baptized), born in December 13 at 3 pm, baptized at 2.1 hours / 2 by Mr. Pieve del Corso - Compare Punta Raymond.
Granucci The family is not among the oldest families calcesane, its appearance in the valley calcesana does not seem to go beyond the early nineteenth century, and since then his home was the parish of Castelmaggiore. Its members practiced the craft of millers, as the daughter of millers was also the mother of John, Mary Valentino Valente, Valente that which gave its name to the well-known bridge over the Zambra.
The young John followed the family tradition, as a miller employed by the company Tellini. For the appreciation of his lively intelligence, the plant management had entrusted the responsibility of the warehouse storage of grains and flours managed to Pisa.
From the "Dictionary of National Renaissance" is noted its successful track record of Garibaldi that verbatim reporting:
Granucci JOHN - No. Calci 13/12/1839 - m. December 1914 to Lamon (Belluno). He volunteered for one year and the campaign of 1859 he was awarded the French medal. The following year took part in the Expedition of the Thousand and shortly after the capture of Palermo, was appointed lieutenant in the 18th Division of the army of Garibaldi (June 11) and then promoted to lieutenant and awarded the Silver Medal for distinguishing himself in feats of arms of Villa Gualtieri (episode of the battle of the Volturno - October 1) - Confirmed in the same degree in Italian Corps Volunteers (August 4, 1861) and then in the 3rd Infantry (March 27, 1862) participated in the campaign of 1866 and was eventually reformed 3 Sept. 1871. next step in the provincial militia, the militia and mobile reserve, reached at last the body can Tenenente Colonel (1903).
do not know much more of this character. In 1878 he was residing in Verona, and in 1910 in Feltham,
as mentioned died in Lamon (Belluno). In practice, after the expedition of the Thousand chose to live in Veneto. My personal opinion is that he chose to live in that region perhaps following advice of some of his companions of the expedition that are precisely in those areas.
Recently I found another small testimony of his life, only a few lines in the book of Pia Palmieri Gaio, “ Nel silenzio della collina “un omaggio a Lamon, che dice :
“”Il ricordo di un personaggio strano, come il tenente colonnello Giovanni Granucci, già volontario dei Mille di Garibaldi arrivato a Lamon seguendo la moglie. “”
Si sa dunque che era sposato, ma nonostante le ricerche non si sono trovate persone che si chiamano Granucci in tutto il Veneto.
Ho voluto ricordare questo mio avo in questo periodo di festeggiamenti per i 150 anni dell’unità d’Italia, è a form of respect for this person, perhaps a bit 'strange and temperamentally difficult, which in a certain period of his life he preferred to drop everything, relatives friends, dear places, and rebuild their lives completely different from what it was in a 'other part of Italy.
I only regret that local institutions have not adequately remembered in his native country, as has been done in places that have adopted it, although to be fair, he was entitled to a road Gabella, a village of Calci.
